Graduation ceremony

LTH arranges one graduation ceremony per year for master's students to honour students graduating at our Faculty. The next graduation ceremony will be on 24 May 2024.

Invitations to the graduation ceremony

Invitations are sent out automatically, by email, to master's students in year 2 that fulfil the criteria. No notification is required. If you fulfil the criteria below in the beginning of April, you will receive an invitation:

  • you have passed 75 credits or more (completed courses within the programme)
  • your Degree Project is registered in Ladok
  • you have not participated in the ceremony at a previous occasion

It is the student's responsibility to make sure that all results have been entered into Ladok. Contact the departement well in advance if you are lacking a result from a course. A reminder will be sent out in March to all students in year 2.

Participating in the ceremony at a later time

If you have been delayed with your studies or been on approved leave and want to take part in the ceremony at a later time than normal pace you need to notify Sabine Richardson: sabine.richardson@lth.lu.se. To take part in the ceremony you need to fulfil the criterias mentioned above and send in your notification of interest.

It should include your:

  • name
  • programme
  • personal identity number (YYMMDD-XXXX)

The subject should be: Notification of interest Graduation Ceremony.

To take part in the ceremony in May 2024, we need the notification latest on 8 April 2024.

Diploma

At the Graduation Ceremony, the students receive a Diploma. This is not to be confused with the Degree Certificate, which is the formal document that you will use to prove that you have passed your degree. The Diploma is ornamental and has no formal value.

The ceremony

The graduation ceremony will be held in the auditorium of the main university building in Lundagård. Approximately one hour before the start of the ceremony, a mandatory rehearsal is held for the participating students. It is very important that you show up on time for the rehearsal!

During the ceremony, your Diploma will be handed out by the Dean along with the Deputy Dean. After being handed your diploma, you get your picture taken (optional). The actual ceremony will last approximately 1 ½ hours and is bi-lingual, Swedish/English. After the presentation of the diplomas there will be speeches held by the Dean, the Deputy Dean, the president of the student union and an honorary guest-speaker. Song and music will be provided during the intermissions between the speeches.

The ceremony will be concluded with a social event in the atrium.

Dresscode

Business casual. If you feel unsure about what to wear, please check the video on this page. Some international students choose to wear traditional festive clothes.

Guests

Due to limited space in the auditorium, the amount of guests is limited. Information about the number of guests you are allowed to invite can be found in the invitation.

Video

The graduation ceremony will be filmed and published on YouTube. A link to the film will be published on the LTH Facebook page. An individual photo will be taken of all students that receive a diploma during the ceremony. These photos will be published on the LTH Facebook page.

Please inform us at hogtid@lth.lu.se if you do not wish to have your photo published.

Important notice: From 2023 onwards, the LTH graduation ceremony in May will be the only one held in English and open for master’s students. The ceremony in December will be held in Swedish and aimed towards students on the Swedish programmes.
