Application process
The application process consists of two steps: applying for a nomination for an exchange spot through LTH and applying directly to the partner university if nominated.
- Application to LTH: First, you apply digitally via the SoleMove application portal, where you will need to prepare study plans for the universities you are applying to, as well as several other documents.
- Application to the host university: If you are nominated for an exchange spot by LTH, you will then need to submit an additional application to the partner university to which you have been nominated. The partner university will then decide on your admission.
Keep in mind that you need to meet both LTH's and the partner university's requirements. Below you will find an overview of the application process.
Available universities vary from year to year and can be found here: Available universities for spring application round
The universities are categorised by architecture, industrial design, and engineering, then by country and agreement. You are responsible for finding universities that offer suitable courses specifically for you and your program.
You apply through Lund University's mobility system SoleMove.
Documents to be uploaded in PDF format:
- A study plan for each university applied for.
Download Studieplan 1 (DOC, 77 kB) - Statement of purpose
- CV
- Portfolio (only MARK, MAEF, SUDes and MID)
For further instructions on how to apply in Solemove can be found here:
- You are expected to enroll in courses equivalent to full-time studies (30 credits) while abroad. For studies outside of Europe, please use the Conversion table | Studentweb LTH (in Swedish) to find the amount of credits corresponding to full-time studies.
- Courses at the host university must be transferable and count towards your degree program at LTH.
- Courses should be on a level that corresponds to your study programme at LTH.The course workload required to be counted as full-time studies at a specific host university is determined by us (= the Faculty of Engineering LTH), and not the host university.
- Please note that the minimum requirement for full-time studies at the host university is not necessarily the same as the number of credits required to transfer 30 Swedish credits (hp). Sometimes the semesters are shorter at the host university, or they have three semester systems, and so on. For this reason, you may be required to study more than the national students do in order to transfer 30 Swedish credits.
- Keep in mind that you have to be flexible regarding the courses that you choose. The host university may change the range of courses for exchange students and there is no guarantee that you will be able to study the exact courses you selected in advance.
Transfer of credits means that the courses you have taken abroad are transferred to LADOK and can be included in your academic degree in Lund. Courses at the host university must be possible to transfer towards your academic degree at Lund University.
Not all subjects or courses can be transferred. You need to have a continuous dialogue with your programme director regarding your study plan.
Once the deadline has passed, the application will close. All eligible applicants who have submitted a complete application will be ranked based on their GPA (for engineering students), portfolio level (for architecture students), or A3 (for industrial design students). Applicants who have not previously been offered and accepted an exchange spot will be given priority.
To be eligible for nomination to one of your selected options, your study plan must correspond to full-time studies and align with the university information provided in SoleMove. You will be assigned a spot as high as possible on your ranking list, taking into account available spots, semester, subject, course limitations, etc. Therefore, your ranking is crucial and cannot be changed after submission.
In cases where applicants have the same merit value, selection will be determined through a comprehensive evaluation of the application, with the greatest emphasis placed on the Statement of Purpose and CV.
Nomination decisions will be sent via email approximately three to four weeks after the application deadline to all ranked applicants. If you are nominated for an exchange spot, you must accept or decline the offer within the response time (usually three days after the nomination notification). Being nominated for an exchange spot does not guarantee admission to the host university. The host university makes the final decision regarding admission.
After accepting your nomination, you will prepare your application to the host university to which you have been nominated. Study Plan 2 must be completed and submitted to your program director for approval. If you are participating in an Erasmus exchange, you will also need to complete a digital learning agreement (OLA+).
More information about Study Plan 2 and the application process to the host university will be available in Canvas starting in January.
Important to know:
- Being nominated for an exchange spot does not guarantee admission to the host university. Your host university will make the final decision regarding admission.
- An approved Study Plan 2 or learning agreement does not guarantee that the courses will be credited.
- Courses may need to be changed at the start of the exchange. It is your responsibility to inform your program director about any changes to your study plan.
