Health care and insurance
Insurance through Lund University for international master’s students
As a fee-paying student staying in Sweden for more than a year you should apply for a Swedish personal identity number at the tax office. This entitles you to pay the same reduced patient fees for all public health care as Swedish citizens.
On top of that you are covered by an insurance through the university, FAS+. This insurance gives a coverage 24-hours a day within Sweden.
As a European student you most likely have an EHIC card. This entitles you to pay the same reduced patient fees for all public health care as Swedish citizens.
On top of that you are covered by an insurance through the university, Student IN. This insurance gives a coverage 24-hours a day within Sweden.
Students of FIPDes (Food Innovation and Product Design)
All FIPDes students are covered by the Marsh insurance. Information on terms and conditions and claim procedure can be found on the insurance company webpages.
Students of IMFSE (International Master of Fire Safety Engineering)
All students are covered by "De Europese insurance". For questions and claims please contact firstname.lastname@example.org.
More information are available on IMFSE student portal.
Coverage and procedure, FAS+ and Student IN
The extra insurances FAS+ and Student IN cover all your expenses for acute illness and accidents. The insurance also contains a liability coverage, a dental coverage and a property coverage.
Please note that this insurance doesn’t cover planned medical care. You are covered for emergency medical care which is defined in the terms and conditions as "care for symptoms that arise suddenly during the insurance period and for which the insured must seek medical aid within a few days.”
This means that if you visit the health-care clinic or the hospital for acute illness you can get the money back for the doctor’s appointment and for any prescribed medicine. Please follow these steps:
- Go to the doctor
- Pay the fee (if possible, otherwise turn to Cecilia Nilsson at the International Office LTH)
- Save the original receipts
- Fill in the claim form (preferably digitally but with a signature by hand)
- Scan the claim form and the receipts and send them by email to Cecilia Nilsson at the International Office LTH who will sign and send it to the insurance company Kammarkollegiet. Email address email@example.com.
Kammarkollegiet will review and pay back the money within approximately one month (may vary depending on their work load).
Please note that Lund University cannot determine if you are eligible for reimbursement by the insurance. It is always Kammarkollegiet that determines your eligibility. You should always try to file a claim form if you are unsure. Kammarkollegiet will base their evaluation on the information you state in the claim form.
Insurance during a degree project or a course abroad
In case you are taking a study-trip abroad within a course or going abroad during your degree project you can be covered by the Student OUT-insurance through Lund University given that you fulfil the following criterias:
- The study trip is done within a course
- There is a signed contract between Lund University and the destination organisation
- The Ministry for Foreign Affairs (UD) has not adviced against all travels to your destination (from 1 July 2021)
This means that if you go abroad during your degree project you need a signed contract. Fill in the Cooperation agreement and ask your supervisor at LTH and at the organisation you are visiting to sign it. Hand it in to the International Office LTH, Cecilia Nilsson. You will receive an insurance certificate. Please note that the Student OUT-insurance is only valid in your country of destination and during your travels to and from the destination. If you want to go on a holiday in a neighbouring country you need to purchase your own insurance.
If you are nominated for an exchange period or awarded an Erasmus internship scholarship you are automatically covered by the Student OUT-insurance
