Wishing you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

The world is in urgent need of LTH’s knowledge, research breakthroughs and innovations. I would like to thank every LTH student for all the important work we have done together during the year to explore and create for the benefit of society, writes Annika Olsson, Dean of LTH.

The year is fast approaching its end, and what a special year it has been for LTH! With no exaggeration, I can say we are concluding a tremendously successful 2023.

First and foremost, we have been able to congratulate Anne L’Huillier, professor of atomic physics for being awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics along with Pierre Agostini and Ferenc Krausz. Deep down, we were not that surprised that Anne L’Huillier was first among Lund researchers to receive a Nobel Prize and that she entered the same category as earlier Nobel laureates in Physics such as Albert Einstein and Marie Curie – but we were very proud and happy!

During the year, LTH has seen an increase in applications to our courses and programmes – whereas applications to other higher education institutions and the national average have fallen. And as Dean, I am glad that you chose LTH and Lund as the place to receive your education.

Students are a very important part of LTH, and you will be an important part of the future development of society when you graduate from LTH. In December, I was privileged to present degrees to around 250 new graduates who attended our graduation ceremony.

It is also very gratifying to see your dedication outside teaching and the classroom, in the events that you organise. One such example is ARKAD, which this year again attracted more companies than there was space for.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyLTH student for this year and all the important work we have done together to explore and create for the benefit of society.

The world is in urgent need of our knowledge, research breakthroughs and innovations. In 2024, we will carry on our work to benefit the climate, digitalisation, industry, the built environment and life.

I would like to wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
